behind the vail

sometimes you get lucky. our gracious host judy in denver presented an alternative to our camping in rocky mountain national park for monday and tuesday: her condo in vail. with rain and snowstorms in the mountains and temperatures from 18 to 40 degrees that sounded alright to me. and what it change it was from denver.
on the way into town we read a a bit about the history. the honorable mr. gerald ford (former president of the united states) bought some land in vail as a congressman and used it as his western white house after the dishonorable mr. richard nixon resigned. he lent the town a grandeur and sophistication that continues until this day.
we browsed the high-end western clothing boutiques until i really started to believe we were in the old west for dinner? elk stew.
